History has taught us over and over again that the strength of our alliances yields greater global stability. When the United States stands with our allies, democracy prevails and peace is protected. This means that future generations inherit a safer world. What we are witnessing is the incoming Trump Administration waver on our commitment to Ukraine. This is more than just a betrayal of our allies–it’s an open invitation to our enemies (especially Russia), emboldening those (Russia) who seek to undermine democracy and destabilize the world.
French President Emmanuel Macron will host an emergency summit with European leaders tomorrow to discuss the war in Ukraine after US officials have suggested that Europe will not play a role in negotiations to end the conflict. Serious question…who in the f**k are WE to exclude other European nations from negotiations to end the war of Russian aggression that’s taking place in their own backyard on THEIR continent? If this sounds absurd to you, it’s because it is. Please wake up, America! None of this is safe! None of this is normal!
Europe is now questioning whether the United States, historically its strongest and most reliable ally, can be counted on. And rightly so! Political dysfunction here has forced leaders abroad to contemplate a world where America is no longer the pillar of Western security. Because under the current administration, we are NOT the pillar of Western security. Trump’s admiration for authoritarian leaders has been evident from his first term—private communications with Putin and love letters to Kim Jung Un. Let’s call it what it is—dictator envy. Trump has dictator envy, and that’s exactly why he spends an exorbitant amount of time cozying up to that thug, Putin.
The consequences of this policy shift are dire. If our closest allies believe they must move forward without us, we risk becoming isolated. This is precisely what our adversaries hope for—a divided West, weakened by distrust and uncertainty. When our alliances fracture, authoritarian regimes grow bolder. Hesitation is weakness and inaction is an opportunity.
For future generations, this is more than simply a foreign policy debate. A world where alliances collapse becomes a world that is far less safe. The erosion of trust between democratic nations invites instability, intensifying global conflicts, and a global order where authoritarian powers make the rules. It means greater threats, more military escalations, and a future where the next generation of Americans must deal with the fallout of Trump’s dangerous and shortsighted decisions.
We cannot afford to turn our backs on our allies. America’s strength has always come from our ability to lead—not just with power, but with principle. Abandoning Ukraine doesn’t just fail the Ukrainians fighting for their freedom, it fails our allies, and it fails future generations by leaving them a more dangerous world.
It is more critical now than ever before that we stand with our allies to ensure future generations inherit a safe world where democracy is steadfastly defended, not abandoned.
I can’t imagine a greater failure than allowing our global leadership to fade, leaving future generations to bear the consequences.
