Trump’s Speech Was Unhinged. What the GOP is Doing is Worse
A third term? His face on money? A federal holiday? They are not joking.
If you thought Donald Trump’s return to the White House couldn’t get any more absurd, his address to Congress last night proved otherwise. In an unhinged, lie-riddled speech that sounded more like the ramblings of a desperate autocrat than a president, Trump painted a dystopian picture of America—one that exists only in the minds of his most rabid supporters. It was a fever dream from a man who is fully untethered from reality. He claimed the economy was “booming like never before” despite skyrocketing inflation, and soaring costs for hardworking Americans. He insisted crime was “at an all-time low” while ignoring the chaos his policies have unleashed. The most notorious criminal in this country's history currently occupies the White House.
But the most disturbing part of the night wasn’t just Trump’s repeated lies. What happened after the speech was even more alarming than the speech itself. Because Trump’s Republican enablers aren’t just humoring him anymore—they are actively working to rewrite the rules of democracy to keep him in power. TAKE THEM LITERALLY. The Republican party suffers from a full-blown cult-like devotion to a man who demands loyalty and worship. GOP lawmakers have wasted no time introducing a flurry of bills designed not to help struggling Americans but instead to stroke Trump’s ego. It is indicative of just how tiny and weak Trump is.
Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) has called for the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zones to be renamed as the “Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States." Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) has called for Trump’s face to replace Franklin’s on the $100 note. Because a man who bankrupted multiple businesses belongs on our currency. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a bill to put Trump’s face on Mt. Rushmore. Because why stop at paper money when you can deface a national monument with Trump’s spray-tanned visage? Rep. Addison McDowell (R-NC) introduced a bill to rename Dulles International Airport in Trump’s honor. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), has introduced a proposal to help expunge Trump’s two impeachments. Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) has proposed legislation making Trump’s birthday, June 14, a federal holiday. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has floated a constitutional amendment that would let Trump seek a third term in the White House. Yes, these are all people from the same party that used to scream about “constitutional integrity.” And yes, they are openly attempting to crown him king.
And if you think this is all simply political theater, think again. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT JOKING. Case in point: Senator Lindsey Graham, a man who once called Trump “a race-baiting, xenophobic bigot” before turning into his most embarrassing sycophant, fired off a tweet after the speech that ended in: “Trump 2028!” Because apparently, pledging loyalty through 2024 just isn’t enough.
Senator Lindsey Graham proves once again that he is a spineless coward. Has anyone tried locating it in a bathroom or storage closet at Mar-a-Lago next to some stolen classified documents?
We’ve reached the point where Republican lawmakers are not even pretending to serve the country. They serve Trump and only Trump. They will rewrite history for him, rewrite laws for him, break laws for him, and, if they get their way, rewrite the rules of American democracy itself to keep him in power. They are telling us, explicitly, what they plan to do. They want Trump in power for as long as possible, and they will burn the entire system down to make it happen.
History has shown us time and time again what happens when people dismiss authoritarian ambitions as bluster. And we know when dictator-wannabes tell you who they are, and what they plan to do, that we should BELIEVE THEM. So take them literally. Because this is no longer a political movement. It’s a cult. And if they get their way, America as we know and love it will cease to exist. This isn’t just embarrassing. It’s dangerous. And if last night’s address was any indication, the next four years won’t just be a nightmare—they’ll be a battle for the future of America.
There are a lot of Republican mofo's that need to be dead, sooner rather than later.
